Enrichment Friday - Part 2

As promised, here are the details for the art class.

Art
We are excited to be offering art enrichment for the following Fridays. Please take a look at the details below and if you are interested please contact Jessica Rowe @ jsscrw@yahoo.com to sign up. Jessica is familiar with our students as she is teaching art every day at school, however these projects are too involved to tackle during a normal school day, so she has created these special opportunities.

September 30th: Dye Lab: Art Magic You Can Wear
We will be exploring sun-reactive dyes and discharge techniques using stamps and stencils. All parts of the projects will be discussed and demonstrated, and you will be provided with an information packet to help you replicate what you have practiced in class. The science behind the "dye magic" will also be revealed. This is a fun and energetic class that would be perfect for parents and children to enjoy together!
_
Time Period: Two hours total with one hour of instruction and demonstrations (broken up) followed by studio time to work on projects. We will break for a snack period during the class, but no food will be allowed in the dye area.
_
All materials will be provided for you.
_
Fee: $ 15 for class plus $ 5 materials fee.
_
Requirements: Enrollment of at least 10 people necessary for class to proceed. Children under 10 need to be accompanied by an adult. Bring a non-messy snack. Wear old clothes - we will get messy!
_
October 14th: Dye Labs Part 2: T-Shirt Rehab
Have a couple of T-shirts that are in serious need of a little bit of awesome? Parents out there, do you have a stash of baby’s onesies that are just a little past their prime? This is the lab for you! We will be exploring dip dyes, dye discharge, and printing techniques that will get that old shirt out of your closet and back into daily rotation. This fun and energetic class is great for parents and children to enjoy together. As with the last class, you will be provided with an information packet to help you replicate what you practiced in the class.

**Please see new "Volunteer Policies" tab at the top for the same information.**

The Buzz Around Oasis Academy Is All About Our Volunteers!

Thank you all for the generous help and support over the summer. We are off to a great start and already well on our way to reaching this years goal of logging at least 7,000 volunteer hours. In an effort to streamline the volunteer process and make the time you spend working towards the goal as valuable as possible we are implementing a 3 tier volunteer system.

1. Classroom Volunteers

2. School wide Volunteers

3. Special Projects and Staff Request

1. Classroom Volunteers

We have found that the teachers know what they need and when they need it. Classroom volunteers will work directly with the teachers. Friends of Oasis (FOA) will no longer be directly responsible for scheduling or managing volunteer time in the individual classrooms. Please contact the teachers thru their email or speak with them directly. This type of volunteering would include: reading or math groups, P.E., drama, art, community service, music etc.

2. School Wide Volunteers

School wide volunteers are scheduled for specific on site “duties”, such as morning drop off duty, lunch duty, Pizza Thursdays etc. Many of you may have already committed to these assignments but we could always use more volunteers. A substitution list is available which allows for rescheduling or emergencies (see below).

3. Special Projects and Staff Requests

Special projects and staff requests may be long term or short term in nature but are normally “one time” special skill tasks. These assignments include school maintenance projects, recycling programs, grant writing, FOA committees, paperwork, and data entry. Every effort will be made to place volunteers in areas of interest and skill set.

All communication regarding volunteering at Oasis, with the exception of Classroom based volunteering, will be handled via a central email address volunteer@oasisacademyfallon.us”. This is the email address that you are receiving this communication from so take a second right now and put it in your contacts.

We are asking that the Oasis staff and volunteers submit their requests and/or offers for volunteering to this email address. By centralizing the communication for volunteering it will allow us to provide a quick and accurate response to managing the volunteering at Oasis. Volunteers please include in your email:

1. Your contact information

· Name

· Phone Number

· Email, if different from the one used

2. Your availability

· Monday AM, Monday PM, Tuesday AM, Tuesday PM, Wednesday AM, Wednesday PM, Thursday AM, Thursday PM, Friday AM, Friday PM, After Hours, and/or Weekends.

3. Type of work or talents you are interested in sharing with Oasis

· Some examples are school repair and maintenance, IT support, uniforms, paperwork, teacher appreciation, and yearbook.

· For School Wide Volunteer activities please note the activity and time slot you would like to be scheduled to cover.

We realize that many of you have already committed to volunteering opportunities and we have not “lost” this information. All sign-up sheets have been incorporated into the new tracking system. If you have any questions about what you may have offered to help with please email “volunteer@oasisacademyfallon.us”.

All volunteers must comply with the volunteer code of ethics and have completed the necessary paper work for a background check. A copy of both of these documents can be found at the front desk on campus.

When you arrive at Oasis to volunteer:

1. Sign in at the front desk. This allows the staff of Oasis to know who is on the school grounds at all times.

2. Obtain an FOA Volunteer nametag. There will be an accordion file for storing nametags alphabetically. If you do not have a nametag please fill out a blank one.

3. Before you leave the school please return your nametag by storing it in the accordion file.

4. Log your hours in the volunteer “Log Book” located at the front desk.

5. Sign out.

Each family is responsible for tracking and summiting their volunteer hours. All hours are to be turned into the Log Book before the end of each quarter (10/14, 12/22, 3/16, & 5/15). Please feel free to update the Log Book monthly. This information is critical to our school as it is used for obtaining funding and grants as well as leading to the overall success of our students and school.

“Strong volunteers = Strong schools”.

If you cannot make your committed time (School Wide and Special Projects): If you have signed up for volunteer time it is your responsibility to find a replacement if you cannot be there.

· Same Day Emergencies: If you have a short notice emergency that will not let you meet your committed time please notify Julie Evans via email at jevans@oasisacademyfallon.us , copy us at “volunteer@oasisacademyfallon.us) and call the school at 775-423-5437.

· General Rescheduling: If you are unable to find a substitute or replacement please contact us at volunteer@oasisacademyfallon.us 24 hours prior to your scheduled time so we can assist you.

· Classroom Volunteers: You will need to contact the specific teacher you have committed to help.

If you have family or friends that would like to be a volunteer please forward this information to them.

Thank you for your continued enthusiasm and support. We look forward to a strong and successful volunteer program.
