Meet the Board

Samantha (Sammi) Gomes - President

Sammi moved to Fallon in the 5th grade and has lived here ever since, except for a few years at UNR where she earned a Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology. After coming back, she spent several years working with special needs children and is now happy to be a stay at home mom. She and her husband, Chris, and their daughter, Jessica, live on a farm and love spending time outside riding horses, fishing, and of course working on the farm. Over the years Sammi has been extremely active as a school volunteer, served as PTO president and been on several different district level committees including: The Parent Involvement Committee District Improvement Plan, and the Master Plan Task Force.

Katy Loop - Vice President

Katy grew up in Fallon.  After graduating from Churchill County High School she attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.  She earned her Master’s degree in Literacy and a Reading Specialist endorsement from the University of Nevada, Reno.  She has taught in the elementary grade levels for the past 15 years.  She is a mother to two young children and has been married to her husband, Paul, for 10 years.



Carrie Mingay - Treasurer

Carrie and her husband Craig have lived in Fallon for six years.  They have two young children - Caleigh and Briston.  After graduating from high school in Northern California, Carrie obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from St. Mary's College of CA and became a CPA.  Now, as a stay-at-home mom, she is happy to devote extra time to help The Friends of Oasis Academy be the best support for Oasis Academy it can be, knowing that the involvement of parents will be essential to having a successful charter school.

Bree O'Neill - Director

Bree has been an independent business owner in the beauty industry for 16 years. “I knew I was meant to be a hair dresser the first time I gave all my Barbie’s hair cuts. Now I get to work on real clients and I love the creativity of my job.”

Bree is married to her high school sweetie Mike O’Neill and they have two children Evelyn and Macray. “Being a mom is the greatest thing I’ve ever done.” Bree and Michael moved back to Fallon to raise their children in the same small community they were raised in. “Fallon is where our roots are and we are excited to be a part of Oasis Academy.”

 Bree spends her extra time with her family and is a true hobbyist and triathlete. “I Just Love it All!”
 
Ashley Weaver - Secretary

Ashley and her husband, Clint, have lived in Fallon for just over a year. They have three daughters, Brennan, Abigail and Carley-Griffin. Ashley grew up in Mississippi. She attended the University of Alabama and finished her college career at Mississippi State University. She received her degree in Communications with emphasis in both Public Relations and Journalism. She is a stay-at-home mom which has given her time to volunteer at her daughters' schools. Ashley was involved with a charter school in Oregon for over two years. During that time she served on the board of their non-profit parent organization; heading up fundraising projects and assisting in writing grant proposals. 

Melissa Mackedon
 
Melissa is one of the founders of Oasis Academy, a State Public Charter School. She served on the first Oasis Academy Board of Directors and was then hired as the administrator of Oasis Academy. Melissa has her Bachelors from UNR in elementary and special education. She also her Masters from UNR in Educational Leadership. She has had a variety of teaching positions, including a kindergarten autism unit, first grade, second grade, reading coordinator, special education teacher, and a WNC English and GED instructor. Melissa is also the mother of two young children. Currently, she sits on the Friends of Oasis Academy board of directors, Charter School Association of Nevada board, and the State Public Charter School Authority Board.
 
Amber Morrow
 
Amber serves as a member of the FOA Board and is the committee chair for several projects like school beautification. Amber has deep ties to the community as a 5th generation Fallonite. She is a result driven person and believes in hard work. She and her husband have two boys that attend Oasis Academy and they are dedicated to the success of the school. The Morrow family enjoys all things outdoors and spends a lot of time camping and boating. Amber has spent 15 year working for Dudley Chiropractic as a C.A and also runs a construction trucking company with her husband. She is probably best know as the "Thursday Lunch Lady" by the students and spends her "free" time helping out at Bighorn Central.
